C61625 - Emeco and Coca-Cola Chairs
In 2006 Coca-Cola approached Emeco who had been manufacturing the Navy Chair since 1944 to solve an environmental issue, finding ways to upcycle Coca-Cola bottles. Together they committed to the project and Emeco found ways to take soft recycled PET plastic and build a sturdy, one-piece chair that is scratch resistant and capable of heavy-duty use. The chair took 4 years to develop. Using 111 recycled plastic bottles these chairs went into production in 2010. Today Conklin is continuing the story by saving them from a landfill for a second time. In the first fixe years of production, 15 million bottles were saved from landfills.
